До поступления в RADA Тарон брал уроки актёрского мастерства в Центре Искусств Аберистуита и играл в молодёжном театре при нём же.

Aberystwyth Arts Centre находится на территории Университета Аберистуита в паре минут ходьбы от школы Тарона. В сети есть ревью на постановки Back to the 80's, The Tempest, The Exam , Little Shop of Horrors и Return To The Forbidden Planet, в которых упоминается Тарон. Все отзывы, к слову, весьма и весьма положительные.

Taron Egerton gave a very sweet, amusing and energetic performance as the shy florist’s assistant Seymour Krelborn and acquitted himself dialogically, vocally and physically with great flair. His relationship with Audrey, and Audrey II for that matter, was always well-balanced and struck the right note at any given time. (c)

Центр своим выпускником, разумеется, очень гордится. В феврале там прошёл благотворительный показ Kingsman и Q&A с Тароном. Собирали средства в фонд по борьбе с заболеваниями двигательный нейронов. Меня как человека, столкнувшегося с этим лично, это очень-очень порадовало.

Если кто ВДРУГ ещё не в курсе, Тарон - хорошо поющий мальчик. "Сильный тенор", - заявляет нам его профиль на RADA. К сожалению, послушать ангельское пение пока нигде нельзя, кроме махонького эпизода в Льюисе. В 2011 году, будучи студентом-второкурсником, Тарон победил в конкурсе Исполнитель Года Сообщества Стивена Сондхайма. Это престижный конкурс, а не какая-нибудь там караоке-битва. Стивен - американский композитор, автор бродвейских мюзиклов. Например, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, а также Saturday Night, в постановке которого Тарон участвовал в RADA.

Кратко для неспикающих: конкурс проходил 22 мая 2011 года в театре Куинз в Вест Энде. Выступали 12 финалистов (изначально конкурсантов около 70). Каждый должен был исполнить две песни: одну авторства Сондхайма, другую - из какого-то современного мюзикла. Тарон пел Giants In The Sky из Into The Woods и May As Well And Why Not из Thérèse Raquin. Второй песни нет вообще нигде ни в чьём исполнении, а Гиганты звучат так:


Вообще не представляю, как это можно спеть.

Все судьи единогласно признали Тарона победителем, заявив, что он выделяется среди всех остальных естественностью и отсутствием фальши. Короче говоря, веришь его персонажу и в его персонажа. Прочие комплименты: безупречное исполнение, идеально попадает и держит каждую ноту, эмоционально вовлекает слушателей в песню и уже вполне сложившийся артист.

Тарон получил в этом конкурсе приз в тысячу фунтов.

Судьями были: Edward Seckerson (журналист, радиоведущий на BBC 3 и BBC 4, музыкальный критик), Kerry Ellis (певица, играла в Les Misérables, Wicked, Cats и - внимание - My Fair Lady ), Anna Francolini (певица и актриса - Merrily We Roll Along, Into the Woods), Timothy Sheader (художественный руководитель театра Open Air в Риджентс-парк), Sarah Travis (музыкальный руководитель и оркестратор, обладательница премии Тони).


“May As Well And Why Not” from Craig Adams’ and Nona Sheppard’s “Therese Raquin” was given a well-crafted and suitably arrogant delivery by Taron Egerton (RADA) as the devious Laurent planning his seduction of Therese. ... The prize and title of The Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year 2011 was awarded to Taron Egerton, the Welsh-speaking second-year RADA student who shone in his delivery of “Giants in the Sky” from “Into the Woods”, drawing out the character of an excited, fearful, proud Jack following his exploits up the beanstalk. It was a delight to see, from my vantage point at the front of the stage, the genuine look of shock on Taron’s face as he heard the news. After an emotional moment, he collected himself long enough to accept his prize. (c)

"Перекошенное от шока лицо" и "чрезвычайно неинтеллектуальная" благодарственная речь. Гиганты на бис - "чуток плаксивее, чем задумывал Стивен". Ох, этот чудесный-чудесный человек! Пусть твои будущие награды не помещаются в твоём доме.
